Overview
Reinstalling wipes your Pod's disk and installs a fresh operating system. Use it to recover from a broken configuration, switch distributions, or start over cleanly. This article shows how to reinstall safely from the ALYPOD Console.
Before you begin
- Back up everything you need. Reinstalling erases all data on the Pod.
- Note your current IP addresses; they usually stay the same but confirm afterwards.
- Have your SSH public key ready.
Steps
- Sign in to account.alypod.com and open the ALYPOD Console.
- Select the Pod you want to reinstall.
- Open the Reinstall (or OS) tab.
- Choose a new OS template and select the version.
- Provide your SSH public key or set a root password.
- Optionally add a cloud-init script.
- Confirm the warning dialogue and start the reinstall.
The Pod reboots into the installer, provisions the new image, and returns to Running in a few minutes.
After the reinstall
- Verify you can log in:
bash
ssh [email protected]
- Confirm the OS version:
bash
cat /etc/os-release
- Reconfigure anything that lived on the old disk: firewall rules, app config, cron jobs, DNS records and monitoring.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: the Pod stays in Installing for a long time. Solution: watch the VNC tab for boot errors; if stuck, retry the reinstall.
- Problem: SSH key not accepted. Solution: reinstall again and paste the key carefully, or reset the root password from the console.
- Problem: you need the old data. Solution: data is unrecoverable after reinstall unless you made a snapshot — restore one by deploying a new Pod from it.
