Overview

You can move a domain registered at ALYPOD to another registrar at any time. This article covers preparing the domain, obtaining the authorisation code and completing the transfer without breaking your website or email.

Before you begin

  • The domain must be at least 60 days old since registration or its last transfer.
  • The domain must not be expired; renew it first if it is close to expiry.
  • Access to the ALYPOD account that manages the domain.
  • The EPP/authorisation code from your ALYPOD account.

Steps

  1. Log in to account.alypod.com and open Domains.
  2. Select the domain and disable registrar lock / transfer lock.
  3. Retrieve the EPP code (see the EPP authorisation code article). It may be emailed to the registrant contact.
  4. Optionally disable WHOIS privacy so the approval email reaches you directly.
  5. At the new registrar, start a transfer, enter the domain and paste the EPP code, then complete their checkout.
  6. Watch the registrant email inbox and approve the transfer when prompted.
  7. The transfer usually completes within 5–7 days if it is not cancelled.

Keeping your services online

A transfer moves the registration, not the DNS. If your nameservers stay the same, your website and email continue working throughout. If you want the new registrar to host DNS, set up the zone there first, then update the nameservers.

Cancelling a transfer

You can cancel an outgoing transfer through the approval email or by opening a ticket from account.alypod.com before it completes. After completion, the domain is no longer managed from your ALYPOD account.

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: The transfer is rejected. Solution: Confirm the domain is unlocked, not expired and past the 60-day lock, and that the EPP code is current.
  • Problem: No approval email. Solution: Disable WHOIS privacy and confirm the registrant address.
  • Problem: DNS broke after the move. Solution: Recreate your records at the new DNS provider and lower TTLs before the change.
