Overview
ALYPOD S3-compatible object storage gives you buckets addressed by an S3 API, so any tool
that talks to Amazon S3 — the AWS CLI, s3cmd, rclone, restic, or application SDKs — can
use ALYPOD storage with only an endpoint change. It is designed for unstructured data:
backups, logs, media, static assets and application uploads.
You manage buckets and access keys in the ALYPOD Console under Storage → S3 Object Storage. Billing appears at account.alypod.com.
Before you begin
- An active ALYPOD Cloud account.
- An S3 Object Storage subscription ordered from the Console.
- Your Endpoint URL, Access Key and Secret Key (created under S3 → Access Keys).
Concepts
- Bucket — a top-level container with a globally unique name.
- Object — a file plus metadata, stored under a key (path).
- Access key — a key pair scoped to read/write buckets on your account.
- Endpoint — the regional S3 URL shown in the Console (for example, copy it into the
S3_ENDPOINTvariable used below).
Steps
- In the Console, copy the Endpoint URL and create a bucket, e.g.
my-server-backups. - Create an access key and store the secret somewhere safe — it is shown once.
- Configure the AWS CLI:
bash
export S3_ENDPOINT="<endpoint-url-from-console>"
aws configure set aws_access_key_id YOUR_ACCESS_KEY
aws configure set aws_secret_access_key YOUR_SECRET_KEY
aws configure set default.region <your-region>
- Use a custom endpoint for every command:
bash
aws --endpoint-url "$S3_ENDPOINT" s3 ls
aws --endpoint-url "$S3_ENDPOINT" s3 cp backup.tar.gz s3://my-server-backups/
- Or use rclone for faster bulk syncs:
bash
rclone config create alypod s3 provider=Other \
access_key_id=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY secret_access_key=YOUR_SECRET_KEY \
endpoint="$S3_ENDPOINT"
rclone sync /var/backups alypod:my-server-backups/server1
Troubleshooting
- Problem:
SignatureDoesNotMatch. Solution: Re-copy the secret key exactly and ensure your clock is accurate (timedatectl). - Problem: Bucket name rejected. Solution: Use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only; names must be unique.
- Problem: Access denied on PUT. Solution: Confirm the access key has write permission on that bucket.
