Overview
cPanel & WHM is a commercial hosting control panel. WHM is the server-wide admin interface; cPanel is the per-account interface for websites, email, databases and DNS. On ALYPOD Cloud you deploy it on a supported Pod (AlmaLinux, CloudLinux or Rocky Linux) and add your licence from account.alypod.com.
Before you begin
- A CPU Pod with AlmaLinux 8/9, CloudLinux or Rocky Linux and root access.
- A valid cPanel licence, orderable from the ALYPOD Console.
- A fully-qualified hostname pointing to the Pod's IP, e.g.
server1.example.com. - No other control panel or web stack installed (cPanel wants a clean server).
Steps
- Set the hostname and ensure repositories are current:
bash
hostnamectl set-hostname server1.example.com
dnf -y update
Disable any pre-installed web/mail software that conflicts (nginx, exim, bind) if present.
Download and run the official installer as root:
bash
cd /home
curl -o latest -L https://securedownloads.cpanel.net/latest
sh latest
- When installation finishes, open WHM in a browser:
https://<pod-ip>:2087
Log in with the
rootusername and set up the initial WHM configuration (contact email, nameservers, hostname). In WHM, go to Server Configuration → Manage Licence and confirm your licence is active. If not, add or refresh the licence from the ALYPOD Console.
Open the firewall for the standard cPanel ports (80, 443, 2083, 2087, 2096), then create your first account under Account Functions → Create a New Account.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: The installer refuses to run. Solution: cPanel requires a clean, 64-bit supported OS; remove conflicting packages or rebuild the Pod with a fresh image.
- Problem: Licence shows as invalid. Solution: Confirm the Pod's main IP matches
the licence and run
whmapi1 refresh_licensesor refresh from the Console. - Problem: Cannot reach port 2087. Solution: Ensure the ALYPOD firewall allows it
and no local firewall is blocking
cpanel/whostmgr.
