Overview

Domains are registered for a fixed period and must be renewed before they expire. This article explains the stages a domain passes through after expiry and how to renew (or restore) one at ALYPOD.

The domain lifecycle

  • Active / registered: the domain works normally and can be renewed at any time.
  • Expired (grace period): typically 0–40 days after expiry, the domain still resolves but should be renewed immediately. Most extensions allow renewal at normal price during this window.
  • Redemption grace period: usually 30 days after the grace period. The domain stops resolving and a restore fee may apply.
  • Pending delete / released: after redemption, the domain is deleted and returns to the public pool, where anyone can register it.

Once a domain reaches pending delete, recovery is no longer guaranteed.

Renewing a domain at ALYPOD

  1. Log in to account.alypod.com and open Domains.
  2. Find the domain and check its expiry date and auto-renew status.
  3. Click Renew and choose the number of years to add.
  4. Complete checkout. The expiry date updates once the registry confirms.

Enabling auto-renew

Auto-renew charges your payment method automatically before expiry. Enable it for any domain you depend on, or even better, renew several years ahead. Keep your billing information and card details current so renewals do not fail.

Grace period versus redemption

If the domain is in the grace period, a normal renewal restores it. If it has entered redemption, the registry charges a restore fee that is usually much higher than a standard renewal — and it may still have been snapped up by a third party if it passed into pending delete.

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: Renewal charged but expiry unchanged. Solution: Give the registry a short time to confirm; if it does not update, contact support with the invoice number.
  • Problem: The domain is in redemption. Solution: Open a ticket immediately from account.alypod.com; restore is time-critical.
  • Problem: Someone else now owns it. Solution: Once released, you must wait for it to become available and register it again, or negotiate with the new owner.
