Overview

SSH keys are safer than passwords and let you log in without typing a secret. This article shows how to create a key pair, add the public key to your ALYPOD account and use it on your Pods.

Before you begin

  • A local machine with OpenSSH (Linux, macOS or Windows 10/11).
  • Access to the ALYPOD Console at account.alypod.com.

Steps

1. Create a key pair (skip if you already have one)

bash ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -C "[email protected]"

Press Enter to accept the default path. Optionally set a passphrase. This creates:

  • ~/.ssh/id_ed25519 — your private key (never share this).
  • ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub — your public key (safe to share).

2. Add the public key to the console

  1. Sign in to the ALYPOD Console.
  2. Go to SSH Keys and click Add SSH Key.
  3. Paste the contents of your public key:

bash cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub

  1. Save it. New Pods will let you select this key during deployment.

3. Add a key to an existing Pod

If you have console/password access, append the key manually:

bash mkdir -p ~/.ssh && chmod 700 ~/.ssh echo "ssh-ed25519 AAAAC3... [email protected]" >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys chmod 600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys

4. Use a specific key

bash ssh -i ~/.ssh/id_ed25519 [email protected]

Or add a host alias in ~/.ssh/config:

Host mypod HostName 203.0.113.10 User root IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_ed25519

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: "Permission denied (publickey)". Solution: confirm the private key is loaded (ssh-add -l) and the matching public key is in authorized_keys.
  • Problem: "UNPROTECTED PRIVATE KEY FILE". Solution: run chmod 600 on the private key.
  • Problem: lost key. Solution: reset the root password in the console, log in and add a new key, then remove the old one.
