Overview
Mounting an ISO image attaches a CD/DVD image to your Pod as virtual media. This is useful for installing software from vendor media, running an OS installer manually, or booting a diagnostic tool. This article explains how to attach and use an ISO in the ALYPOD Console.
Before you begin
- An ISO file you are allowed to use (for example a Windows Server ISO for your licensed copy).
- A Pod you can power-cycle.
Steps
1. Upload or select the ISO
- Sign in to account.alypod.com and open the ALYPOD Console.
- Select your Pod and open the ISO / Media tab.
- Upload your ISO file, or choose from any images ALYPOD provides.
- Wait for the upload to finish — large ISOs can take a while.
2. Attach the ISO
- In the same tab, click Mount next to your ISO.
- Optionally set the boot order to boot from the CD/DVD first if you are installing an OS from it.
- Reboot the Pod so the change takes effect.
3. Use the attached media
- In a running OS, mount the virtual CD to read files:
bash
mkdir -p /mnt/iso
mount -o loop,ro /dev/sr0 /mnt/iso
ls /mnt/iso
- To boot from the ISO, watch the VNC tab and open the boot menu during POST.
4. Unmount when done
bash
umount /mnt/iso
Then click Unmount in the console and restore the normal boot order to your disk.
Troubleshooting
- Problem: virtual CD not visible. Solution: reboot the Pod after mounting;
the device (
/dev/sr0) appears only after the hardware change is applied. - Problem: Pod boots the ISO instead of the OS. Solution: unmount the ISO and fix the boot order in the console.
- Problem: upload fails on a large file. Solution: check your connection and retry, or mount only when needed to save storage.
