Overview
SMB/CIFS lets you mount an ALYPOD Storage Box as a network drive on Windows, macOS and Linux. It is the easiest way to map a shared storage volume for desktop users or to copy files from a Windows Pod. SMB is served on port 445.
Before you begin
- Your Storage Box hostname and username (from the ALYPOD Console → Storage → Storage Boxes).
- A separate SMB password, if you set one on the Storage Box detail page (SMB credentials can differ from the SFTP password).
- Network access to port 445 from your client or Pod.
Steps
Windows
- Open File Explorer → This PC → Map network drive.
- Enter the folder path:
\\u123456.your-storagebox.alypod.com\backup
- Tick Connect using different credentials and enter the username and SMB password.
- Click Finish. The drive appears under This PC.
You can also mount from PowerShell:
powershell
net use Z: \\u123456.your-storagebox.alypod.com\backup /user:u123456
macOS
- In Finder press
Cmd+K. - Enter
smb://u123456.your-storagebox.alypod.com/backupand click Connect.
Linux
bash
sudo apt install -y cifs-utils
sudo mkdir -p /mnt/storagebox
sudo mount -t cifs //u123456.your-storagebox.alypod.com/backup /mnt/storagebox \
-o username=u123456,vers=3.0
To persist the mount, add credentials to /etc/cifs-credentials (chmod 600) and an
/etc/fstab entry using credentials=/etc/cifs-credentials,vers=3.0,_netdev.
Troubleshooting
- Problem:
mount error(13): Permission denied. Solution: Confirm the SMB password and that the share name matches the one in the Console. - Problem:
vers=1.0or2.0is rejected. Solution: Usevers=3.0; modern Storage Boxes require SMB 3. - Problem: Windows caches old credentials. Solution: Run
net use * /deletein an elevated prompt, then remap.
