Overview
An ALYPOD Storage Box is a standalone, network-attached storage service that lives independently of your CPU Pods. It gives you a large, always-available volume you can mount or sync to from any server, so backups and shared files survive even if a Pod is rebuilt or deleted. Use it for server backups, off-site copies, media archives, or a shared drive for a small team.
Storage Boxes support SFTP, SSHFS, SMB/CIFS, rsync and BorgBackup-style snapshot workflows. You manage them in the ALYPOD Console under Storage → Storage Boxes, and billing lives at account.alypod.com.
Before you begin
- An active ALYPOD Cloud account (account.alypod.com).
- A Storage Box ordered from the Console (Storage → Order Storage Box).
- Your Storage Box hostname, username and password, shown on the Storage Box detail page.
Steps
- Sign in to the ALYPOD Console and open Storage → Storage Boxes.
- Select your Storage Box. The overview shows the hostname (for example
u123456.your-storagebox.alypod.com), capacity, and protocol endpoints. - Note the credentials: the username is your Storage Box ID, and the SFTP/SMB password is generated on creation. You can reset it from Storage Box → Settings → Reset password.
- Choose a connection protocol:
- SFTP / SSHFS for Linux and macOS.
- SMB / CIFS for Windows and macOS Finder.
- rsync over SSH for server-to-box backups.
- Optionally enable Automated snapshots on the detail page. Snapshots are stored on the box and let you roll back accidental deletions quickly.
- Connect and confirm you can list the volume:
```bash sftp [email protected]
or
sshfs [email protected]:/ /mnt/mybox ```
Troubleshooting
- Problem: Connection refused on port 22. Solution: Confirm the Storage Box is active in the Console; suspended boxes block all protocols.
- Problem: Permission denied after a password reset. Solution: Update stored
credentials in your client,
~/.ssh/configor mount script.
